Oak Steakhouse Charleston – GO THERE!

OK, let me start by saying that right now Local11Ten in Savannah is my current favorite restaurant.  It was tied at one point with Bull Street Chophouse but unfortunately that place of wonder no longer exists so Local stood on top.  I was feverishly hoping to replace it with somewhere and tonight I have found the spot.  Oak Steakhouse’s menu reads like a personal wish list, could this possibly be true, goat cheese cheesecake?  Fois Gras?  Prime cuts?  Tar Tar?  I’m sold.  My only worry was that it wouldn’t live up to expectations.  I was right, it didn’t, it exceeded them.  Located in Charleston’s beautiful historic district thankfully you get to do some walking to the restaurant before gorging yourself on its impossible to turn down menu.

First course we had to go with the tar tar and fois gras.  The fois gras was seared to perfection and paired with Apple-Apricot Chutney.  It was agreed this was the best selection of fois gras we have had…….EVER.  The tar tar was awesome as well, although we miss the presentation of Bull Street Chophouse, perhaps a bit of acid was missing?  Still awesome though.

Our main courses consisted of the The“OAK” Burger (Grilled Onions, Arugula, Fontina Cheese, Brioche Bun with Hand Cut Truffle Fries).  This is the best burger we have had, period.  Do i need to say more?

We also had the CAB® “BISTRO CUT” *Burden Creek Dairy Goat Cheese Fondue, Truffled Pomme Frites)  cooked rare, this was an incredible “budge friendly” selection on the menu.  While i would obviously recommend the pricier Prime cuts, this is a nice option for a little less.

We also had for dessert the incredible goat cheese cheesecake, don’t visit Oak without at least trying this!

I now have a solid tie with Local.  Local still remains on top for me because…..well…….its local, however if Oak was right around the corner from my house Local might have a pretty tough contender on their hands.

Local 11 Ten interior

On September 21st I hosted a gathering of Purchasing Managers from
throughout the General Dynamics organization including International
attendee’s.

I felt compelled to provide this brief review that the accommodations were
great, the food selections and the wine list was fantastic.

All my folks were overwhelmed with not only the food and wine but also the
impeccable service. I will certainly put Local 11 Ten at the top of my list
for future dinner parties when I want to bring out the best in Savannah.

Selections from the Level 2 menu we selected includes:

Gourmet Hot Dogs Savannah

Were looking forward to trying this tonight (9/28/11), review to come!

Hey there hot dog lovers! Welcome to SubDogs HotDoggery…home of the most
off the hook hot dogs you’ve ever had. To say this has been a long time coming is
an understatement. The concept came to chef/owner Matt Jording way back in
2001 and has been kickin’ around in his head ever since, only to be finally born
in Savannah, Georgia in 2011. Matt’s done fine dining restaurants for years and
wanted to move that experience onto one of America’s favorite everyday foods…the
wiener, and just to be clear, we’re pretty dang excited about our wieners.

First off, we bake our own bread, which, not to be modest, is kind of awesome.
We also only use the best ingredients we can get our hands on, including hot dogs
from five different places around the world in all kinds of different varieties…all
beef, turkey, bratwurst, natural casing, ½ pound and yes, even falafel for all you
vegetarians out there. But we think that maybe what you’ll like the most, is all
the crazy stuff we have to put on ‘em. You name it…anything from the traditional
relishes, mustards, and chilis to some pretty non-traditional stuff like braised beef
short ribs, champagne Dijon aioli, and Cajun onion fried tumbleweed. (Is your
mouth watering yet? That’s what we thought). We do the hot dog, just way better
than you could ever imagine.

And while we’re excited about our mainstay, we’ve also got some other stuff up our
sleeves, including our soon to be signature Dog Nughtz…bite size corn dog nuggets
served with any kind of sauce you’d ever even think to like. We’ve also got a few
salads that’ll knock your socks off…after all…even if you’re not gonna have a dog, we
still want you to love what you’re eating. You can also always be on the look out for
new and different things, because the ideas…they just keep coming.

So…Gourmet, meet hot dog. And hot dog, meet gourmet.

Now play nice.
