If you read my blog or follow me on social media, then you know my blog is all about food in the LowCountry of South Carolina. This week however, I got the opportunity to travel to Oklahoma to visit my sister Scarlett and my brother-in-law Alex. My sister said, “Do a traveling blog Hannah, it would be awesome!”, so that is exactly what I did. Scarlett and Alex took me to all these amazing places and I am very excited to share them all with you!
After an exhausting flight from Charleston to Dallas to Oklahoma City, Scarlett and I landed with our stomachs rumbling for some good food. Alex picked us up from the Oklahoma City airport and took us straight to this amazing little burger joint called The Garage. The Garage is located at 1024 W I-240 Service Road, Oklahoma City, OK 73139. There are sixteen locations in Oklahoma, two in Arkansas, one in Missouri, and one in Nebraska. Walking into The Garage you immediately get an authentic vintage feel with a bit of modern charm. There are license plates hanging on the wall, old vintage signs scattered about, and 50’s style silver and red booths. Lingering in the air is the smell of juicy burgers and french fries. You walk up and order your food, then take a number to your seat of choice. Personally, I love being outdoors on beautiful days and so does my sister Scarlett. Not so much Alex, but he was out numbered! So we went straight for the patio. After sitting down I began to look around and noticed that the servers and bartenders attire was unique and perfect for the place. They wore gray button up mechanic shirts with a pocket. I loved the atmosphere, and now I was ready for some food! While we waited, I did some research about how The Garage was started. According to their website eatatthegarage.com, “The Garage was created when three men sat down one day and decided to come up with the best tasting hamburgers and fresh-cut fries in town.” Well this Foodie believes they did just that!
The Garage has a wonderful variety of burgers, tacos, salads, and a few other items like their Fork and Knife Dog or Fish and Chips. They are most commonly known for their burgers, so that is what I tried. Actually to be honest, I tried three. Yes, that’s right I tried three! The Big G, The Grilled Jalapeno Bacon Cheeser, and The Kitchen Sink are the three burgers I indulged myself on, and let me just say it was more than worth it. The Big G definitely lives up to it’s name. It is a two patty burger with one patty cooked fried onion style, topped with pickles, onions, and a slice of american cheese, then smeared with ketchup and mayo. This burger had a great flavor and I loved the uniqueness of the fried onion style patty that brought this double cheeseburger to a whole other level. The Grilled Jalapeno Bacon Cheeser is a delightful burger with garlic aioli, lettuce, tomato, onion, freshly grilled jalapenos, bacon, and american cheese. This burger at first seemed like it was going to be just a normal jalapeno burger with a fancy name, but The Garage added their garlic aioli and grilled jalapenos (“grilled” being the operative word here) and knocked a typical burger out of the park! Simple adds can really make all the difference. Now, I have saved the best for last! The Kitchen Sink is the best burger I have had in a long time! This burger is typically served on a beef patty like all their burgers, but I switched it up and got them to do a turkey patty for this one. I love this place because you can swap your protein for turkey, bison, or the impossible burger. The Kitchen Sink is topped with swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms, sweet jalapeno relish, garlic aioli, BBQ sauce, and a fried onion ring. This mouth watering sensation had me diving into every bite! I try really hard not to have a usual at any restaurant, but honestly I don’t think I could refrain from ordering this one time and time again.
As far as sides go you must try the hand cut fries! The garage has many different ways they serve their fries, and I would love to try all of them, but I had three burgers I didn’t need but one fry! When I saw they had Garlic Parm Truffle Fries I knew I had to try them. I am a huge truffle fry fan, and The Garage did me proud. If you have never had truffle fries you should go right now and try some, seriously go right now, your life is not complete until you have had truffle fries! Fries fried in truffle oil and topped with Parmesan, oh what genius thought of this I would love to meet them! I have tried truffle fries at many different places and though these are not my number one they are my second favorite, which is saying a lot. When you get an order of truffle fries from The Garage make sure to ask for a side of BBQ aioli and garlic aioli, trust me you wont regret the dip choice. I did also try the pork rinds, which I did not care for. They seemed a bit stale. Maybe it was just an unfortunate batch. I will say this, I did love the season on them. I am not sure what the season was, but it was a little spicy and had a really good flavor.
This foodie is definitely impressed! If you are ever close to one of the many Garage restaurants you should definitely give it a try. Great atmosphere, great people, and great food! Thank you Scarlett and Alex for the recommendation.
