Wren Bar & Bistro

Whether lunch or dinner Wren hit’s the spot! Wren is located in the middle of the Beaufort’s Historic District and has a great menu, delicious dishes with locally grown ingredients. I’ve been to Wren on multiple occasions and have never left disappointed.

The ambiance is upscale, trendy and welcoming. For lunch you can typically just walk in but for dinner reservations are recommended and can be easily made via OpenTable.

Wren’s most popular item for lunch is likely their Toasted Pecan Cranberry Chicken Salad which comes served as a sandwich or plate. Admittedly I’m not a huge Chicken Salad fan but let me tell you this Chicken Salad is like no other and I’ve never had anyone in my party try it without raving about it. My other lunch time favorites are the Shrimp MexiCali Salad, Greek Chicken Wrap and last but not least their take on the Smash Burger.

When it comes to dinner start with the garlic shrimp. You will thank me later. I also had the Twisted Caesar salad and the kalamata olives gave it a nice change. For the main course, The Mahi Mahi is presented beautifully and has a great cajun taste to it. It’s served with Carolina Grit Cakes and sits in a Shrimp and Lobster cream sauce. The Shrimp & Grits on the other hand is not what you are thinking. It’s a deconstructed plate with 2 Carolina Gold Cheese Grit Cakes topped with shrimp in a parmesan cream sauce with bacon, tomatoes & onions. This is really a great version of this popular Lowcounty specialty.

Unfortunately the last time I was there their oven was broken so they did not have their famous coconut layer cake. If they have this DO NOT miss the opportunity. This is my #1 favorite desert in the Lowcountry. It’s absolutely to die for.

Maybe you are making a trek to Beaufort for the day or maybe you are a local, either way Wren Bar & Bistro should not be missed. If you won’t be in the area you could also check out their sister restaurant called Jane located in Shelter Cove on Hilton Head. Stay tuned for my review of Jane.

Fun Fact: The building that Wren currently occupies was previously the Beaufort Coca Cola Bottling Co.
